Don’t Text & Drive

The firm of Bader, Stillman, & Adler, would like you to be aware of the seriousness of texting while driving.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office and the head of AutoNation are joining forces to put the brakes on driving while texting.

BSO teamed up with the CEO of AutoNation, Michael Jackson, along with race car driver Andy Pilgrim in an effort to persuade the Florida legislature to follow 36 other states in banning drivers from texting while at the wheel.

Broward Sheriff Al Lamberti announced a series of steps they will take in order to put an end to texting and driving during a press conference Wednesday. He also explained his concern. “Texting while driving, it’s like the weather, everybody talks about it, but they figure, ‘there’s nothing I can do about it,’ so it’s become accepted.”

According to reports, 6,000 Americans died last year and about 400,000 were injured during crashes caused by distractions using cell phones and texting.

The majority of the people that we interact with on a day to day basis, have and live by their cell phones. Gone are the days when we would use beepers and pay phones to communicate. Now we have our phones to do that and our phones are linked to all our social integrated websites; facebook, twitter, myspace to name a few. Unfortunately, since we are so attached to our phone and are always texting, updating statuses, it will also cause us to lose our attention on the road, and cause a potential accident.

As, I am writing this, I would like to say, even I have been guilty of it, holding the phone in my hand while I am driving waiting for the next phone call, text or email. I too have almost caused an accident in Margate, just a few minutes from our office because of my carelessness. No one is exempt, so our attorneys, Eliot Bader, Philip Stillman, & Brian Adler would like to say, be careful out there and don’t text and drive.
